The people with the tightest security and the best security record over the last few decades are the folks at El-Al. The ex head of security says that these machines and invasive pat-downs are unnecessary and do not work.

not often I'm on the same page as Keith Olbermann, but this is great. El Al has it figured out, of course Keith is a day late and a dollar short. I heard all about El Al Airport Security more than 8yrs ago on conservative media outlets - duh!

Thanks for that link. Mr. Yeffet makes a lot of sense...TOO MUCH sense for the American body politic to understand.

Hey PG--I know the two of us have had our share of discussion topic disagreements, BUT I will heartily second your nod to ElAl, having flown with them a few times in the 70s/80s when visiting the Negev Desert. Very efficient, very polite, very apparent (ie, the security teams at the airport, etc., etc.).

Didn't bother me at all, and neither did any of the other security personnel I met with in many middle of nowhere sites...wherever you stand on the bigger political issues of the region, the people of the desert thereabouts are warm (no pun intended), open and welcoming to visitors (although I should qualify that this was more than 25 yrs ago).

Thank you! Saw him interviewed last night. Also, the number of terrorist highjackings of planes is lower now than it has been for decades. I'm a hell of a lot more worried about cargo than passengers.
